A Matter of Perspective

Do you take lots of photos when you travel? We all want to remember the sights we saw, the people we were with, and we want to have something to share on social media. I took a lot of pictures on my last trip, but I had a different goal – I was looking for inspiration. When I got home and looked through my photos, I realized that my perspective as an amateur photographer is a lot like the perspective we bring to working with our clients.

Details matter. The Victoria & Albert Museum in London is full of beautiful objects, but when I took the time to notice the detail of the marble stairs under my feet, I captured one of my favorite images. Details matter in client work too, whether we’re asking questions about the purpose of a marketing campaign or deciding how a photo should be cropped to have the most impact.

There’s always another way to look at things.Westminster Abbey is incredible, but I knew I couldn’t take a photo that would do it justice. Some construction work on the grounds caught my eye though, and those images looked like abstract paintings to me. I intended to take a picture of a beautiful historic site, but found that a different point of view yielded a more interesting image. We try to look at our clients’ challenges from multiple points of view as well. Often the first, obvious solution isn’t the most effective one.

Keep your eyes open. I saw interesting compositions everywhere I went, even in a pile of rusted pipes on the sidewalk. It’s not the kind of subject I would normally think of photographing, but it caught my eye. Whether it’s something you see out in the world, an article you read, or a conversation you have, you can find inspiration everywhere if you’re open to it.
